Perhaps it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I find the story engaging and I am interested in the characters. I am up to date on all the volumes currently out.

Well,I have to admit, this is different. Instead of dying, the protagonist simply falls asleep and winds up in another world. I don't know how this'll going but I'll say this. It's not your typical isekai.

It's not that uncommon in isekai plots. Overlord for example starts with the main character blacking out while in game too. Log Horizon, the characters just all of a sudden find themselves in the other world. Re:Zero the main character simply exits a store and finds himself in another world. While being reincarnated/reborn into another world is common, simply being taken to another world also isn't rare.

Me too.

Watching the anime as it comes out and it has certainly not followed the novels or the manga too closely. By episode 5 it seems to have found it's pace better than it started.

As far as falling asleep isekai, didn't John Carter fall asleep in a mine and find himself on Mars?

I thought things moved along too quickly in the manga, then the anime takes the manga's run through the story and joins it with the Speed Force to cram 2 light novels into 3 episodes. So far I can only recommend the light novels which actually take the time to, well, do anything, really. I don't see myself reading any more of the manga or watching any more of the anime except for the occasional need/want for a visual counterpart to something I read in the novels. I do like Mira's outfit designs.
