Level 5 Head Teases Live-Action Yo-kai Watch
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino teased on Saturday that the next installment in the Yōkai Watch franchise might be a live-action adaptation. Hino appeared at an event to promote the second Yōkai Watch anime film, Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan! (Film Yōkai Watch: Great King Enma and the 5 Stories, Meow!), which opened in Japan on Saturday.
Hino teased the live-action work in response to a question about his New Year's resolutions. The president explained that the adaptation would likely use CG for characters such as Jibanyan. Hino also gave a wry smile and said that his comments about a possible live-action version might lead to "a disagreement later."
Some of Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan!'s main voice actors as well as costumed characters also appeared at the stage event for the film. In five self-contained stories, the film features the following guest stars: actress Masami Nagasawa, singer/actress Chiemi Hori, singer/actor Tetsuya Takeda, and the comedy duo "Hakata Hanamaru Daikichi."
TV Tokyo announcer Sayaka Suguru announced at an earlier December event for the film that a third anime film will open in winter 2016. Suguru added that the details of the film are still a secret.
