The 10th compiled book volume of Kotoyama's Dagashi Kashi manga revealed on Friday that the manga has 3 million copies in print.
The manga follows Kokonotsu, who does not want to inherit his family's rural candy store as his father wishes. A girl named Hotaru, who is crazy about small-time candy stores, appears at the store and repeatedly visits in order to convince him to take it over.
Kotoyama launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in June 2014. The manga was nominated for the 41st annual Kodansha Manga Awards in 2017.
The first 12-episode television anime series adaptation premiered in January 2016. Funimation streamed the series with subtitles as it aired in Japan, and also streamed an English dub. The company released the anime on DVD and Blu-ray Disc last April. A second season premiered on January 11, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan, with Funimation also streaming an English dub.
