Seattle Cinerama Announces Its First Anime Movie Festival
Festival to Screen Twenty-Three Titles and Many Fan Favorites
SEATTLE, Wash. — March 28, 2017 — Cinerama today announced its Anime Movie Festival, which is the first festival of its kind for the independent movie theater, owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen. Twenty-three anime movies will be shown beginning Tuesday, April 25, through Wednesday, May 3.
Cinerama's Anime Movie Festival will feature an array of genre favorites including Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Paprika and Cowboy Bebop. A large selection of titles from Studio Ghibli will also be featured, including ten masterpieces from famed anime creator Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki titles in the Festival include Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro. Also included in the festival is 2017 Oscar-nominated The Red Turtle. All movies will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles. The exceptions being Ponyo, which will be dubbed in English, and The Red Turtle, which is dialogue free.
Most of the festival titles will be digitally screened using Cinerama's laser projection system and shown in Digital Cinema Package (DCP) format, providing the highest resolution for many of the festival's vintage titles.
Tickets to all of Cinerama's Anime Film Festival's showings are $16 and beginning today, can be purchased in advance at www.Cinerama.com. Reserved seating is available for all festival titles. Limited edition Cinerama merchandise will also be available at the pop-up shop in the theater's lobby.
