WARPs UP Cover Ai Otsuka hit 'Planetarium' in Japanese and Chinese, as the Second Release in Their Acoustic Covers Trilogy
LANGYI and MINGJUN of the Japanese-Chinese boys collective WARPs UP have released 'Planetarium (LANGYI & MINGJUN ver.)', the second release in their “trilogy” of acoustic cover songs.
Ai Ōtsuka's ‘Planetarium’ was used as the theme song to the classic TV series ‘Boys Over Flowers’ in 2005, becoming a hit not only in Japan but also in China and other parts of Asia. Otsuka herself has performed a version of ‘Planetarium’ with mixed Japanese and Chinese lyrics.
The release follows the first song in the trilogy, 'Pleasure (LANGYI & MINGJUN ver.)', which has been described as “comforting”, “the sound of the summer night breeze at the seashore” and “awash with beautiful harmonies”.
In this time where international travel is still difficult, LANGYI thought about his faraway family members, and listening to ‘Planetarium’, he found solace in the song's lyrics about seeking happiness in the memories of someone you cannot meet in person, giving him the strength to look forward and do his best.
The music video was shot after sunset, and the images of the evening sky blend with the song's piano arrangement, resulting in warming scenes that echo the end of summer.
