Is the vertical scrolling manga market that big in Japan?

I was sure it's been dominated by Korean and Chinese so far.

I hate the vertical scroll stuff, condensing a page into a panel or so ruins one of the things that makes comics so special. Kills the ability for interesting layouts.

And this might be old man yelling at clouds for me, but younger audiences reading comics/watching movies and tv, it just kills the experience. Not even mentioning the 5 second attention spans.

I heard line manga is pretty big over there due to a mix of domestic manga and imported comics (mainly the imports I think), and koge donbo has a new manga on that platform, but that's about all i know about the webtoon scene over there.
